“A history-making public barn raising attracted
about 1000 people to ClearWater Farm”
Over week in August, 2018, visitors from all over Ontario came to Georgina to see the Timber Framers Guild volunteers (arriving from all over North America!) rebuild a fire-destroyed 112-year-old barn on the Lake Drive property.
We hosted the Timber Framers Guild to rebuild the barn that accidentally burnt down on the Lake Drive East property in 2016. The Timber Framers Guild used traditional timber framing craftsmanship to erect the structures but the Guild also has a vision of ‘enriching community through craft’ – quite an alignment with the values that the Ontario Water Centre, the not-for-profit that runs ClearWater Farm, holds dear.
The rebuilding of the ClearWater Farm barn led up to Georgina’s 200th Anniversary, visitors signed a birthday card in celebration and the community rallied to help, supplying the crew with 8,000 breakfast, lunches and dinners.
The plan for the barn includes use as a multi-function year-round resource for cultural programming and events. ClearWater Farm is being transformed into centre for experiential learning and a place that connects kids with nature.
But we still need your help to make sure the barn becomes a reality for this community!
