Annabel Slaight receives 2016 Award of Honour for lifetime commitment to Lake Simcoe and ReWilding Lake Simcoe receives a Pioneering Green Communities Award

The Ontario Water Centre proudly received two honours at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) 35th annual Conservation Awards on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in Newmarket.

Annabel Slaight, Founding Chair, was presented with the 2016 George R. Richardson Conservation Award of Honour for her lifetime commitment to improving the Lake Simcoe watershed. Annabel co-founded Ladies of the Lake; the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition; the Alliance for a Better Georgina; and the Ontario Water Centre including its new initiative ClearWater Farm, Willow Beach, an experiential learning centre linking land, water, food and community.

The Ontario Water Centre’s ReWilding Lake Simcoe received a “Pioneering Green Communities Award” for its renewal projects at Pine Beach Community Park, Keswick, and in Centennial Park in the Kawarthas. The ReWild team engaged community members to redesign the spaces to benefit people and nature equally. ReWild projects feature innovative stormwater filtration systems that help restore the health of Lake Simcoe.
